Installation Guide
General installation overview. Follow the service manual for your exact engine and carburetor configuration. Fuel-system work requires the appropriate skills and precautions.
- Verify Part Identification and Prepare the Work Area: Confirm that your engine model and required carburetor base gasket match reference 3853283 (0914598 / 914598) and check that 2 gaskets are present in the pack. Shut the engine off, allow it to cool completely, disconnect the battery, shut off the fuel supply per your service manual, and ensure the work area is well ventilated and free of ignition sources.
- Remove the Carburetor and Inspect Mounting Surfaces: Document the routing and orientation of all fuel lines, vacuum hoses, choke connections, and throttle linkages before removal. Remove the carburetor mounting fasteners according to the service manual, lift the carburetor off the intake manifold, remove all traces of the old base gasket, and compare the new gasket port openings and bolt pattern directly against both mating surfaces.
- Install the New Base Gasket and Check for Leaks: Position the new carburetor mounting gasket in the exact orientation specified by your service manual, reinstall the carburetor, and tighten the mounting fasteners evenly to the manual's sequence and specification. Reconnect linkages and fuel lines, verify smooth throttle and choke operation without binding, restore fuel supply to check for any seepage around the base, and test run the engine only with proper cooling water supplied.
